"Today I was helping out a colleague of mine who works with the Columbus Adult Parole Authority. I imagine the client I helped was typical of the clients my associate sees every day: no money, no job, and not much hope for the future. These parolees really feel beat down on account of the fact that they are released into the public with nothing to help them re-establish themselves. The one thing they deserve the most is the opportunity to voice their opinion through the power of the vote. When I asked my client if he would like to register to vote, he told me he wasn't allowed to on account of being a felon. When I told him this simply was not true, he was beyond himself with being allowed to speak his voice in the political process that has power over his life as a citizen. I think that this simple realization of having a political voice once more is empowering to people who thought that their power had been permanently taken away. It was nice to have the tools to share this with my client. That made my day."
